Properties of sea ice and land surface processes in the CMIP models.
The links on column headings connect to further explanations of the

Sea Ice: Sea ice extents/thicknesses are categorized as prognostic (Prog), diagnostically determined (Diag) from the surface ocean temperature, or prescribed (Pre). Th indicates simulated ice thermodynamics. Rh or Fr denote, respectively, simulated ice dynamics with rheology or with a "free-drift" approximation (i.e., neglect of internal ice pressure).
Land Surface
Processes:Pre
indicates that soil moisture is prescribed. Where soil hydrology is a
model
prognostic, B denotes use of a bucket scheme (i.e., a single
soil
layer with constant moisture capacity) and BB of a modified
bucket
scheme (i.e., a single soil layer with spatially variable moisture
capacity),
while P denotes a more physically-based approach to predicting
soil
moisture (e.g., representation of moisture diffusion across multiple
soil
layers, force-restore approach, etc.). R indicates inclusion of
a routing model for treatment of runoff as a supply of freshwater to
the
ocean model. The presence of (constant or variable) stomatal resistance
is denoted by S, while C indicates the inclusion of an
explicit
vegetation canopy for moisture interception and transpiration. Where
applicable,
the commonly used name of the land-surface scheme is listed in
parentheses.
